Members of the BSD team have successfully completed a wide variety of projects for local, national, and international clients in Western Canada and North America. Projects have included industries such as retail, commercial office, industrial, residential, healthcare, education, senior living and more.

PRESIDENT

BALDWIN ASALA

Baldwin is the president of BSD and brings over 30 years of experience in the construction industry with extensive Institutional, Commercial and Residential portfolios including managing large, complex multi-use development projects. He is also a founding partner of Brascon Construction Incorporated and has been involved in real estate acquisitions, development, construction, and management. He began his career as a project architect and later project manager and evolved into positions like Director of Operations, Vice President, and Project Executive for CM/GC Organizations. Baldwin offers significant contributions at every stage of the projects lifecycle, from concept and design, through budgeting and cost analysis, scheduling to construction systems and project completion. He has completed to date almost $2 Billion worth of projects with 1.5 million square feet of residential development.

Baldwin is responsible for all aspects of BSD’s growth strategy to acquire, reposition and manage value-added developments and communities. He holds degrees in Environmental Science and Architecture, certifications in Project and Construction Management (CM).

DIRECTOR, ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION

ADENIYI AKANNI

Adeniyi is the Director of Engineering and Construction at BSD. He comes with over 30 years of experience with a project portfolio of about $20 billion within the oil & gas and the commercial construction industry, particularly in areas of project engineering, operational management, project estimating, interactive planning and capital asset assessment. He oversees the delivery type for each project, selection of design systems and construction teams, and creation of management tools for company-wide projects.

 

Adeniyi’s proven track record of coordinating large and small-scale construction projects make him an asset to the team. In addition to being a Project Management Professional, Adeniyi comes with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering and Master of Science in structural engineering from University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is licensed in five Canadian provinces and six states in the USA.

 

DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

BRIAN SCOTT

Brian is senior manager of Development and sustainability at BSD.  He currently leads infrastructure development and all green initiatives including solar and geothermal project applications.    He comes with a strong background in electrical, controls and certificates in electrical technology. He is also a certified project manager with over a decade of experience in the oilsands including development and construction of residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects.  His unique skills set and love for renewables makes Brian the ideal candidate to lead our sustainability initiatives. 

He designed and managed the installation of the city’s highest floor level penthouse solar installation in Calgary, AB.

PROJECT MANAGER

KEVIN LONG

Kevin specializes in pre-construction, project estimating and delivery of ground-up development and construction projects in industrial, retail, commercial office, mixed-use and recreation developments. His responsibilities also include maintaining budgets, construction schedules, subcontractor selection and project document control. Preparation, estimating and coordination of RFP (Request for Proposal) processes and participate in negotiations and consultant/contractor selection for contract formation.

Identify project risks associated with different activities and develop mitigation plans. Managed construction budgets and estimates ranging from $2 m to $500 million. 

 

Kevin holds a Diploma in Business Administration and Management, Survey Technology from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton AB, and various project management courses. 

 

PROJECT MANAGER

GUSTAVE HITIMANA

Gustave is responsible for turnkey delivery of ground-up development and construction projects from entitlement and financing through construction, occupancy, and management. Prior to joining BSD, he worked as a General Contractor and Owner’s Representative on mixed-use and transit-oriented development projects across the city. He specializes in Infrastructure, healthcare, education, mixed-use and senior living developments. Managed construction budgets and estimates ranging from $2 m to $500 million. 

 

Gustave comes with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Concordia University, Montreal and engineering project management certification from Cornell University, USA. 

HUMAN RESOURCES & PERFORMANCE PSYCHOLOGY

BALDWIN ASALA JR.

As head of human resources, Baldwin is responsible for compensation, benefits, culture, talent management, workforce planning, employee relations and performance psychology. His ability to align employee engagement with maximum bottom-line results has allowed BSD to develop and support a productive, diverse, and talented workforce.

Baldwin comes to BSD with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the university of Calgary and a master’s in psychology from City University of Seattle, Washington.

PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT

SCOTT VERKOYEN

Scott manages the construction site and team from initiation to hand over on project completion. He has excellent communication skills with site staff, sub-trades, consultants, and regional authorities, while maintaining a strong presence and involvement in all site activities. Assist the Project Manager in developing and maintaining the construction schedule and site management plan, documents, and reporting. Provides bi-weekly schedule updates to maintain production with-in budget. Initiate, activate and maintain a site-specific safety program for the project with BSD’s safety consultant.

Coordinates and direct independent testing and inspections as required for project quality control. 

Safety certifications include WHIMS, First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive, CSTS, Confined Space, Fall arrest, Ariel Work Platform, Slinging and Rigging.
